on the Kokish River

Fisheries in the Kokish River

The Kokish River contains a valuable variety of fish species, such as Coho, Chinook, Chum, Pink and Sockeye Salmon, as well as Cutthroat, Steelhead and Rainbow Trout, requiring a high level of protection.

Both Evolugen and the ‘Namgis First Nation value environmental respect and preservation. To ensure fish migration and minimize environmental impact, this facility’s innovative design includes a fish ladder, allowing fish upstream passage, and a special screen to prevent them from entering the water intake and tailrace areas.

Our Kokish facility received a Sustainable Electricity Social Responsibility Award from the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA). This annual award honors companies that demonstrate a notable commitment to sustainable development. We received the award jointly with the ‘Namgis First Nations to highlight our partnership and its positive impact on the community.
